You don't need to be an athlete, but you do need to be comfortable walking. The terrain itself is gentle: rolling Galician countryside on well-maintained paths and quiet country roads, with no major steep climbs or technical hiking. The real challenge is the rhythm: most walking days cover 9 to 15 miles, and we walk day after day.

The good news is that walking is something you can absolutely train for, and we'll discuss training strategies together in our pre-departure Zoom meeting so you arrive in Spain feeling strong and confident. You'll also walk at your own pace. This is not a group march; some people stroll and stop for coffee, others stride ahead, and everyone arrives on their own time.

Most language apps and traditional classes focus on output: they ask you to produce language before you've had enough input to do so naturally. That creates stress, and stress actually impedes acquisition. Duolingo is essentially a vocabulary and grammar app with a gamified interface. Rosetta Stone uses immersion, which is closer to CI, but without the human connection and co-created storytelling that makes our classes work. Traditional classes ask you to memorize and perform. Our classes ask you to listen, engage, and let the language come to you. The difference is in how it feels, and in how quickly things start to stick, which tends to surprise people. Just a small daypack with water, raingear, and whatever snacks or layers you want for the day. Your luggage is transported ahead to the next night's accommodation every single day, so you never carry more than a few pounds on the trail.

 We always say that everyone has their own Camino. It is your journey, and you make it what you need it to be each day.

Our driver, Curro, transports the group’s luggage and is also available to support participants along the route. He can pick you up if you need to stop early, or drive you ahead a few miles so you can enjoy a shorter walking day. Because our guides, driver, and group stay closely connected throughout the day, we can easily arrange a meeting point whenever someone needs extra rest or support.

Sometimes a blister acts up, energy is low, or the day simply feels harder than expected. We have had participants walk fewer hours, start farther ahead, or get picked up along the way. You never know what a particular day may bring, and there is absolutely no shame in adjusting the walk. You will be supported 100% throughout the journey, so there is no need to worry. Everyone walks their own Camino, in their own way.

GOGI Abroad has been guiding travelers on the Camino for nearly 20 years, and past participants have ranged widely, including many walkers in their 70s and 80s. What matters isn't your age; it's your curiosity, your willingness to prepare, and your spirit of adventure.

April in Galicia is springtime: green hills, wildflowers, and mild temperatures, typically in the 50s and low 60s during the day and even go up to 80! We just never know the weather but we are prepared. Galicia is green for a reason, though, so some rain is likely. Good raingear is on the packing list, and we'll cover everything you need in the pre-departure planning session.

Vegetarians will find that Spanish menus lean toward meat and seafood, but there's plenty to enjoy: tortilla española, padrón peppers, fresh cheeses, hearty salads, and vegetable dishes, and our guides know which restaurants along the route do vegetarian food well. Gluten-free eaters are also in good hands. Many Galician classics are naturally gluten-free (grilled fish, pulpo, tortilla), and our guides can help you communicate your needs at cafés and restaurants along the way, which is a great Spanish lesson in itself.

Many of our participants join the Camino on their own, and it is one of the most wonderful ways to travel solo without ever feeling alone. The Camino naturally creates a close-knit community, and the friendships that form along the way often become one of the most meaningful parts of the journey.

Unlike the traditional Camino experience, we do not stay in albergues with bunk beds and large shared rooms. We stay in comfortable hotels, and accommodations are based on double occupancy, so you will have a roommate throughout your Camino.

Through our many years of experience on the Camino, we have found that participants are sometimes a little nervous about sharing a room at first. By the end of the journey, however, they often reflect on how special it was to share the experience with someone new and to form a friendship they may never have expected.

Absolutely! Non-Spanish speakers are welcome, as long as they come knowing there will be a lot of Spanish spoken around them and that many participants are there to try to speak Spanish as much as possible. That's part of the magic of this trip, and being surrounded by a language is exactly how people start to pick it up.

We encourage them to build some Spanish before we go, and there's plenty of time: Express Fluency offers live online classes at every level, from absolute beginner on up, and Camino participants receive a 50% discount on classes before the trip. By April, they might surprise you (and themselves) on the trail.
